Really thin picks: .36mm (great for new guitar players)

Thin picks: .48mm (great for new guitar players)

Medium picks: .50mm - .73mm (great for strumming good for single notes)

Heavy picks: .80mm - .95mm (great for single notes good for strumming)

Heavier picks: 1mm - 2mm (excellent for single note playing and heavy distorted chords)

Heaviest picks: 2.5mm - 3mm(+) (for single note and bass playing primarily)
